What is the Thai E-Visa system?

The Thai e-Visa system is a platform designed to facilitate foreign travelers who wish to enter Thailand by allowing them to apply for a visa online via www.thaievisa.go.th This system serves as an electronic visa application and screening system for foreigners entering Thailand. It helps improve convenience, reduce congestion, and create a connected database with security agencies, in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. Traditional visa applications are still processed alongside the online system.Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa,Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated that the e-Visa system is a modernization of Thailand’s visa processing, making it more efficient and aligned with the digital era. It enhances service quality and convenience for foreigners applying to enter the Kingdom, improves screening efficiency, reduces paperwork, and integrates data with relevant agencies to facilitate travelers. This system also helps strengthen Thailand’s image and international confidence, supporting the country’s position as a regional and global hub for tourism, business, and international travel.

Application Process

1. Apply for a visa online by scanning the QR Code via www.thaievisa.go.th
2. Complete the application form in English and submit the required documents.
3. Schedule an appointment through the system to submit your passport at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General.
4. Pay the fee electronically via Kasikorn Bank’s E-Payment system, receive the receipt by email, and print the appointment confirmation for your records.

Limitations of the Thai e-Visa System

• Technical issues: The system may occasionally malfunction or be difficult to use, especially if the internet connection is unstable.
• Processing time: Approval typically takes 5–10 business days, but it may take longer if documents are incomplete. In such cases, officials may request additional documents, which can delay the process. 
• Some visa types cannot yet be applied for through this system and must be processed directly at the embassy in special cases.
• Document submission: Applications must be submitted from outside Thailand only.
